They say success is a journey and not a destination and I think my story taught me that. My journey in my early thirties was to reclaim the well-being I slowly realized had disappeared from my life. I was chronically fatigued, had constant headaches, body aches, allergies and sinus problems and a long, boring list of other physical complaints. I was actually on hiatus from a career in consumer publishing, a stay-at-home mom with no designs on returning to corporate America, but I knew before I pursued a return to a career of any kind, I needed to get my health in order.

In my daydreams, my memory of well-being always placed me in nature, enjoying physical, emotional and spiritual peace and boy did I want that back! My passion to reclaim this “birthright” brought me to chiropractors, intuitive healers, nutritionists and herbalists. All helped me along the road to recovery. What I didn’t realize is that what was really happening was a deep awakening of my true calling as a healer.

Through what I can only describe as a truly serendipitous chain of events, I was guided to my current work in the health care field. My services include colon hydrotherapy, acupuncture, Chinese herbs and Nutrition Response Testing. The Chinese believe that true healing happens when one is aligned with their destiny. I am happy to say that I have found my destiny and in my healthcare practice hope to help others move toward theirs. I have been in practice for over 25 years in New York City and know that I have truly found a calling in the work I do and in the process have reclaimed my own health and well being.  How’s that for success?!

Janira Martinez

I’m a fashion photographer turned health & wellness practitioner. I found my passion for nutrition through my own journey to health. Six years of my life were spent exploring ways to alleviate my various health issues: acne, hormonal imbalances, digestive complaints, fatigue, anemia, and extreme sugar cravings to name a few. I had tried everything from allopathic to alternative treatments without much results and I was beyond frustrated.

Then in 2010 I met someone whose story inspired me. A fashionista who spent years battling her own health challenges and then decided to study nutrition only to end up healing herself, quitting her career, and starting her own health magazine. Amazing! I was so inspired that I actually enrolled in the same nutrition program she attended at The Institute for Integrative Nutrition that very same week.

During my nutrition program I spent a lot of time exploring my body, my heart, and my soul and went deep within myself to figure out what I needed to be well. I experimented with different diets, made lifestyle adjustments, incorporated new spiritual practices, and finally began a Nutrition Response Testing program at Inner Fire with a deep commitment to get myself well. With each step forward I realized that my health woes were really a blessing in disguise- It was clear I was meant to use my knowledge and my experience to help others get well.

Fast forward and here I am at Inner Fire working as Patient Advocate. I work with patients on their Nutrition Response Testing programs by supporting them in making gradual changes to their diet; changes that can seem monumental at first but are totally doable when broken down into small steps. I love helping people learn to love healthy foods and regain their health and vitality and I couldn’t be happier or more grateful that my own health journey led me here.
